Willows Beach
Willows Beach is one of Greater Victoria’s most popular beaches for relaxation and swimming. Located in Oak Bay, the sandy shore and protected waters of the beach are perfect for a day out with the family. The waterfront also features views of the Oak Bay Marina, Discovery Island, and Mount Baker. Steps from the shore, you can also enjoy the popular Willows Tea Room concession, a playground, and a grassy park to enjoy.
Island View Beach
Island View Beach is a regional conservation area on the eastern shore of the Saanich Peninsula, offering panoramic views of Haro Strait, James Island, and Mount Baker. The beach is sandy, perfect for a picnic or reading under the sun. If you’re an avid camper, there is also ample opportunity to book a spot and set up your tent in the park’s self-contained RV and tent campground.
Esquimalt Lagoon
Did you know Esquimalt Lagoon is one of seven Migratory Bird Sanctuaries in British Columbia? When you visit, you’ll be sure to see an incredible array of birds enjoying the beach alongside you. The lagoon offers miles of breathtaking ocean beachfront, with views of the City of Victoria, the Olympic Mountains and Fisgard Lighthouse. Turning away from the ocean views, you will also be able to take in Royal Roads University and Hatley Castle. Bringing your dog along with you? Be sure to keep them on leash at this park.
Mount Douglas Beach
Mount Douglas Beach is a Greater Victoria hidden gym. Just steps away from Mount Douglas, where you can hike or drive up to the top and take in incredible glimpses of the city, you’ll find Mount Douglas Beach. Make your way down a small hill toward the vast beach and explore incredible sea life. It’s the perfect place to take a break from studying and the business of life and enjoy a peaceful moment.
Gonzales Beach
If you’re looking for a more secluded beach, Gonzales Beach is the perfect spot for you. With warm sand, located in an inlet, Gonzales Beach has amazing views of the nearby homes and the Gonzales Hill Observatory. Make your way up to the Observatory to take in the views from the inlet from above, it’s unforgettable! Dogs are allowed off leash on the beach from September to the end of May, however when we enter the summer season, dogs must be leashed.
Spiral Beach (Clover Point)
Located off Dallas Road, Spiral Beach can be accessed via its painted spiral staircase, featuring incredible artwork of sea creatures. The pebble beach is perfect for flying kites, reading, skipping rocks or catching a sunset. Located along the curve of the island, the winds also make it the perfect spot to enjoy some hang gliding or trying it for yourself! Dallas Road offers numerous beaches for us to enjoy, all within walking distance of the downtown core.
Taylor Beach
When venturing through the scenic landscapes of Metchosin, don’t miss the chance to discover the hidden gem that is Taylor Beach. This exposed sand and gravel beach can be accessed via a short walk down a trail and offers a perfect, secluded visit for those looking for some peace and quiet. Bring a book or a picnic, go for a swim—whatever you do, Taylor Beach is a blissful retreat.
Glass Beach
Glass Beach in Sidney is famous for, you guessed it, sea glass! Visitors can enjoy exploring the beachside, collecting countless pieces of polished glass, weathered and smoothed by the relentless tides, and getting creative with what they create from it! Once you’re done exploring and collecting your treasures, take a walk down the Sidney Pier to engage with some local sea life, breathe in the salty ocean air and enjoy the quaint neighbourhood.
Arbutus Cove & Gordon Head Beach
Arbutus Cove & Gordon Head Beach are popular with university students, as it finds itself close in proximity to the UVic Campus. The sheltered beach offers both rocky and sandy sections and is a popular spot to decompress near the calm tide. Enjoy a quick trail walk as you near the beach before taking a staircase down to your destination.
Weirs Beach Weirs Beach in Metchosin is another secluded, hidden gem, ready to be explored. If you’re looking for a beach visit and a quick walk amongst nature, take the Weir Beach Trail, a quick 1 km out and back trail alongside the water. The trail is open year-round and takes an average of 11 minutes to complete. Relax, get your steps in and take in all the sights nature has to offer.
